Our Location & How to Get Here; It's Easy!

Both locations are a little over 45 minutes west of Redding, which is on Interstate 5 in Northern California. Take the Eureka turn off I-5 and follow signs through Redding.
From the San Francisco Bay Area, we're 4-6 hours away by car. Redding has a cool little airport and daily flights from major airports. You can fly in and rent a car or arrange to have us pick you up for an additional charge. We suggest you rent a car so you can explore on your own after we show you around on your tours.
Trinity Center has a very nice airport as well and we can be bribed to pick you up.
Cell phones have only spotty coverage here, but they work in Douglas City and Weaverville, so call us if you go too far: 530.778.3444.

BUCKTAIL LOCATION (Sow's Ear, Trout & Laughing Salmon): Westbound from Redding

Drive west on 299 about 45 minutes. Pass the first turn-off for Trinity Lake, Lewiston Lake, Lewiston and Trinity Dam Boulevard. LOOK AT THE SIGN AT RIGHT: DON'T TURN HERE!

About 3.9 miles farther west, you'll come to the next Lewiston turn-off and see the signs below . You'll see a sign for a winery, plus the signs for Lewiston, the lakes and Bucktail River Access, which is where you're headed. Take that right onto Lewiston Road.

(Headed eastbound from Weaverville, look for the signs below. Take the first left turn-off for the winery, Lewiston and Bucktail River Access. Then follow directions below.)

You're now on Lewiston Road. Go 3 miles to Browns Mountain Road/Bucktail Access. The sign is on the right, but turn left
onto Browns Mountain Road. Staying on the paved road, cross the river and take the first right after the bridge onto Salmon Drive. Go one block and turn right onto Steelhead. Go to the end, about a long block. Laughing Salmon is to the right behind a big fence and Sow's Ear is to left at the end of road. The driveway bends around and up to Sow's Ear and you can park up there or in the central parking area. Look for the sign for Sow's Ear in the front yard. Laughing Salmon (our cabin) is located behind the tall fence that borders the common parking area, and Trout is beyond that fence as well.

Watch out for online directions and GPS systems. They don't seem to understand rural areas.

Steel Bridge Location (Alpen Glow, Carriage House, Dragonfly Cottage & Miner's Cabin): Westbound From Redding:

Drive west on 299 about 45 minutes. Pass both turn-offs for Lewiston. Roughly 2 miles past second turn for Lewiston, you'll see this view of the Trinity Alps off your right side.

As you're heading down the mountain, look for the Steel Bridge sign on the right. Take that right.

Drive a few hundred feet to the first road on the left, which is Thistle Lane. Left onto Thistle and down the lane which becomes our driveway. Don't take the right turn off Thistle. If we're waiting for you at Steel Bridge, the phone number there is 530.623.9444. Our number at our Bucktail location is 530.778.3444.

(Headed eastbound from Weaverville, look for the sign below. Turn left onto Steel Bridge Road. Drive a few hundred feet to the first road on the left, which is Thistle Lane. Left onto Thistle and wind down about 1/4 mile to end of the road. If we're waiting for you at Steel Bridge, the phone number there is 530.623.9444. Our Bucktail number is 530.778.3444.)

This is the view (at right) looking up Thistle Lane from our parking area. You'll come down this lane from Steel Bridge Road.

The first cabin you'll see is the Carriage House on the right. The picture to the right shows the front porch of the Carriage House. If you're staying at the Carriage House, park next to the front porch. Dragonfly is located behind the Carriage House..

Next is Alpen Glow, the large A Frame. If you're staying at Alpen Glow, you can park in the breezeway to un-load. Check with us to see if anyone will be staying at the Miner's Cabin during your stay. If not, you may leave your vehicle there. If guests will be in the Miner's, you will need to either park in the covered parking beyond the breezeway, or in the parking stall to the left of the breezeway (smaller vehicles only). You may also park in the common area across from the Carriage House.
BEWARE: There are beautiful 150 year old walnut trees beyond the breezeway. Walnuts fall out of these trees late summer-fall!

Guests staying at the Miner's will drive through the breezeway and park in the covered area beyond, or out in the common area. Follow the trail down the hill toward the river, walking through the grove of trees. The Miner's is about a 30 second walk down the trail, next to the water.
