The Fish & Ski Haus has four bedrooms; two baths; a private patio with a fire pit & 2 BBQs; and a lovely garden (wait 'til you see our ski fence in person!). It has a beautiful view of the mountains across the valley and even a bit of Mt. Shasta from the private patio in back.
The upper floor is the main floor. It has the fabulously-equipped kitchen with an oak dining set, large pantry, Keurig coffee maker, microwave and just about every utensil, pan or implement you can imagine (such as a blender, Cuisinart, turkey roaster and much more). There is a door off the kitchen to the great patio and this is often the main door guests use.
There is a large living room that features a leather couch and loveseat, a double futon, beautiful handmade oak sideboard and an antique hutch. There are many excellent books in the sideboard. Underneath the living room windows that look out across the valley to the mountains, there is an electric fireplace with pretty 'flames.' The mudroom is at the front door and it has a bench for putting on boots and shoes. There are hooks for outerwear.
Also on the main floor is the master bedroom and bath. The master bedroom has a four poster bed complete with a lighted string of trout encircling it, a large dresser and bench for donning footwear and a full closet. The master bath is adjacent; it has a large tub with shower.
The Tiny Bedroom is actually the upper landing for the stairway downstairs. It has a twin captain's bed, antique side table and some cool antiques. There is also a small oak rolltop desk and chair. In fact, the whole place has neat antiques and fine artwork.
Downstairs you'll find two bedrooms. The front bedroom has a nice queen sleigh bed and a large dresser. Beyond that is a maple sideboard with all sorts of interesting books and a couple of reading lights. There is another door to the outside from this bedroom and the laundry room is next to the entrance.
You must walk through the front bedroom to get to the back bedroom. It has a brass and wrought iron Victorian double bed and a trundle bed with two twins. The second bathroom is accessed from the back bedroom and it has a ball and claw bath tub with bubble bath and bath salts.
The Haus is on Dunsmuir Avenue just a few minutes off Interstate 5, yet it avoids both freeway noise and close train sounds. Although we love the trains' occasional horns as they go through town, places closer to the tracks are subject to quite loud whistles as well as the occasional screeching of brakes.
The Haus has a Smart TV with Netflix and Amazon Prime and there is Wi-Fi. Cell phones work well in Dunsmuir but some phones work better in the living room toward the front of the Haus.
In winter, Shasta's Ski Park is a huge draw. For a small resort, it offers excellent runs for beginners, intermediates and experts and the rates are so low, you can afford to spend several days enjoying all that it has to offer. Summer in the Siskiyou Mountains is fantastic and Dunsmuir is a fun place to stay while climbing Mount Shasta or Castle Crags; exploring Siskiyou County; fishing the Upper Sacramento River; attending spiritual retreats and discovering Dunsmuir itself. Fishers flock to the area, as do hikers. Drive up Mt. Shasta to Bunny Flat for gorgeous photographs of the entire area. Enjoy the fire pit on the Haus' patio.
You'll find many quality restaurants in Dunsmuir, most of which are in walking distance from the Haus. Catch some excellent food, brews and live music at Dunsmuir Brewery Works, which is also an easy walk from the Haus. Dine at romantic Cafe' Maddalena or La Perla de Narayit for family-priced Mexican food prepared by a family. Be sure to shop for vintage clothing, jewelry and antiques at The Brown Trout, too! And don't leave that shop before looking under the mat at the front door for a real surprise. Families also enjoy the Pizza Factory.
The renowned Ted Fay Fly Shop is also located in downtown Dunsmuir and just a stroll away from the Haus. The Upper Sacramento River and other rivers and streams nearby are very popular for fishing.

"Thank you so much for sharing your lovely rental with us! It was a great getaway and home while away! We can't wait to go back; two nights was way too short. We have enjoyed ourselves immensely. I love Shasta! " Anouk Ben-Tchavtchavadze
