Comments from Our Guests

3/1/2010: "Thanks! We had a great time. Cabin was great!" Sean Solway/San Anselmo, CA

2/28/2010: "Jim , Chuck and I had a wonderful stay; as always in the cabin everything was perfect! You guys are the best and I am telling everyone I know that they need to get up there and stay with you. Steelhead season is almost over, so am not sure when Luann and I will be back up, but hopefully we will come up this summer. She wants to go down the river after seeing all the photos, so we will have to plan a stay with you. Anyway here are some pics I especially like the one of you Heidi...Where are your shoes it was chilly out that morning? Must be use to it, huh? Thanks again for all you both do to make us feel so special."
John Soos/Santa Rosa, CA

"We all had a GREAT stay as usual! See ya on February 21st."
John "Doc" Soos/Santa Rosa, CA

(John's above left, niece Kelsey, John & wife Luann, Luann fishing across from our Bucktail cabin. Fishing is really a family affair for these folks, who have stayed with us several times this past year)

1/1/2010: "Jeff and I had a wonderful stay! We felt very comfortable as soon as we got here. Steph & Heidi, you both are very accommodating. The cabin was great! We are going to be staying here again! Bella [a very happy Lab puppy] loved it here & playing in the snow. We had a wonderful time." Christina Saenz/Vallejo, CA

12/30/2009: 12/30/2009: "Thanks for another great trip--at least your part! The place [Carriage House] was great and the breakfasts were perfect. Anyone who stays with you and doesn't get the breakfasts is crazy! Fishing was great so I'm sure we'll see you guys again. Have a great year!" Kevin Eldridge/San Francisco, CA

12/14/2009: "Good Morning Heidi!
It was a great week we had. Fishing was at times slow but that is to be expected when steelhead fishing. We all caught and landed some steelhead & that made for a great trip. Talk to you soon."Mike Balog/Nevada City, CA

11/17/2009: "Thanks for everything! We really enjoyed our first extended stay and steelhead trip on the Trinity. The food was perfect; the strata was great! Thanks again. We hope to stay here with you again soon." Kevin & Mike Eldridge

10/19/2009: "We loved our time at Carriage House and miss the relaxing times we spent on the river bank. Take care and hope to see you soon." Kevin and Patricia/San Rafael, CA

9/12/2009: "This was just what I needed. You won't be able to get rid of me!"Alison Gude/Oakland, CA

9/7/2009: "Thank you so much for the use of the Carriage House. We had a wonderful time! We didn't catch as many fish as we were hoping for, but had a good time none the less. What a beautiful area. [Brought two dogs and it] wore them out. I would like to try Alpen Glow; we looked through the windows and it looks very nice." Alicia Smolke/Lodi, CA

9/1/2009: "Renting all four cabins [at our Steel Bridge location] was perfect. We had plenty of space and privacy at the same time, having the two kitchens helped as well, the patio was a perfect space to hang out, the river gorgeous, the fact we could have the dogs, the Alpen Glow kitchen really well stocked.....I could go on and on!

The place was incredible, the rates reasonable, you two were gracious hosts. This was the best weekend-away I have planned so far, I think! We'd love to talk again about January, we have some more birthdays coming up, and would love to make this our summer retreat spot . What can I say, we had a blast!!! Thanks again." Robin Pagliuco/Eureka, CA

9/3/2009: "We enjoyed our stay at Sow's Ear greatly. This was a special getaway for our family and we'd love to come back sometime soon." Zack, Lana & Jay Jaber/San Francisco, CA

8/3/2009: "Loved the sunny, private river access. Great to rent group of cabins together & LOVED no minimum stay. Pugsly loved to roam free & explore nature. He's never seen deer that close! He's my baby and it felt great to have him so welcome. Definitely do it again." Kelly Duffy/Mill Valley, CA

8/2/2009: "[The Miner's cabin] was wonderful!" Likes: Setting, scenery, THE RIVER, easy to find, close to lots of great stuff ...fishing, kayaking, rock climbing. "We'd do this again!" Vanessa Thurmond (celebrating her first anniversary with Robb) San Jose, CA

7/26/2009: "[Miner's cabin] The privacy! Comfy bed, access to water, view from deck." Likes: "No TV! Definitely do this again. May book larger cabin & bring our whole family." Tammy Flowers Berry Creek, CA.

7/19/2009: "Thanks for a great time! Being on the river was on of our favorite parts of the trip." Sue Dougherty/Bend, OR

This is Sue's daughter Sydney on the rope swing at our Steel Bridge cabins. Her daughter and friend are shown second, then there is Andy the dog, who didn't make it as a service dog and is now learning to be a dog. Andy swam, played with our dogs, rode in the raft, chased things and goofed off. Excellent dog behavior.Steph and I were touched that they posed Andy by our sign, because he learned so much here. This makes the Trinity River Adventure Inn his alma mater.

7/19/2009: "Thank you so much! We had a wonderful time!" Jodi & Jacques Ropert/Windsor, CA

7/19/2009: "We liked everything! Enjoyed the kayak trip, the food & most of all, the company! Thanks for it all! Next time, would love another kayak trip." Kim & Jeff Pearson/Redding, CA [see video of their 1st ever kayak trip here.]

7/3/2009: "Kids had a blast on the rope swing & swimming hole, inner tubing & kayaking; adults, too! Had a great time. Nice, spacious house (Alpen Glow], great spot on the river. Enjoyed eating on the deck. Liked the fact there was no cable TV!" David Figur/San Mateo, CA

6/28/2009: "As Heidi's telephone greeting says: 'You're gonna LOVE IT!!!!' Believe it. Our Father's Day visit to the Miner's Cabin will be remembered as one of our very best getaways. The cabin is small, suitable for [up to] three occupants (not counting our two dogs). The riverfront location is superb and the furnishings quite comfortable. Those elements alone would have made our trip fun, but what made it outstanding were our hosts, Heidi & Steph (and their two dogs.)

Put simply, they went out of their way to anticipate our every need, served delicious dinners on the patio of their home, sent us back to the Miner's Cabin with home-made breakfasts, and served up an excellent lunch on our raft/kayak trip. As if this were not enough, they are truly the most interesting and cordial hosts we have ever experienced. We are already planning a return visit.
As Heidi's telephone greeting says: 'You're gonna LOVE IT!!!!' Believe it."
Parker & Eva Severaid, Roseville, Ca

6/28/2009: "Dixie, our dog, looks down in the dumps since we came home. I don't think she really wanted to come back to Campbell with us. Nancy L. Beutel/Campbell, CA

6/24/2009: "As you know, we were quite taken with your food. In particular, our son would like to have the recipe for the salad dressing served during our first dinner with you. He is cooking for his lady friend this weekend and would like to present a similar salad course. If you can get that to me in the near future, we will be grateful. Regards, The Roseville Gang" (Parker, Eva, Matt, Minnie and Maggie) [We did send the recipe; Jan - Heidi's mother - created this recipe. She cooked legendary spaghetti dinners that fed half of the coastside where they lived. The salads were huge and filled with great things. The dressing is delicious; lots of garlic and herbs.]

5/19/2009: "Loved everything. Used this trip to relax; next time may take advantage of rafting and kayaking. Achilles (above on the lawn between the Carriage House and river) loved running around on the grass and walking in the river. We will be back and bring others with us."
Kim Erickson/Lakeport, CA

5/26/2009: Andy and Allison Harris returned for their third straight Memorial Day Weekend this year. They brought their daughter Tess and Andy's sister Vicki and her husband Leo Rocconi. They had a ball! They fished, rafted the Trinity, Tess did all of the women's toenails (including Heidi's; easily the best treatment they have ever had), and the weather was perfect.
Here are some of their comments:

As always, great."

"Our adult daughter loved it here. She hasn't gone fishing since she was a child and she really had a blast catching trout from the raft."

"River raft was extremely beautiful."

"We love you guys! Meals: gourmet."

"We liked everything about our stay. The only thing we would do differently is stay longer!"

"We absolutely loved this place! It's definitely a keeper."

5/9/2009: "We had a relaxing stay and will tell our many fishing friends about your place." Tom Hall/South Lake Tahoe, CA

5/9/2009: "We really enjoyed this upper section [of the Trinity River] and our stay here! Lovely cabin [Carriage House]..."
Toni Hall/South Lake Tahoe, CA

4/1/2009: "Thanks! We had a great time. What a lovely area. The fresh flowers were such a lovely touch! Take care & thanks again!" Chris Wise/Redding, CA

2/16/2009: "Our stay at the Miner's Cabin has been everything we hoped for and more. Your hospitality--including the amazing crab dip--has been wonderful from start to finish. We can't wait to come back! Thank you for making this trip so special for us." Erik Villar/chef Calistoga Ranch, Calistoga, CA

January 25, 2009: "As a long time Trinity River angler and guide, and the Director of Outfitters for The Fly Shop in Redding, I've had the opportunity over the years to visit many of the different motels, lodges, and cabins -- several of which have come and gone -- along the Trinity River. For sheer seclusion, access, and cozy, comfortable accommodations, the cabins at the Trinity River Adventure Inn are certainly among the best. My wife Kerry and I [below], along with some friends, were fortunate enough to spend a couple of nights recently staying at the Trinity River Adventure Inn, specifically the Alpen Glow and Carriage House cabins. We enjoyed our stay immensely, spending much of our time simply relaxing and enjoying the beautiful scenery and tranquility of the Trinity River flowing just past the back deck. Of course, we made sure to wet a line, too, with some great success in the productive steelhead runs accessible only from the Trinity River Adventure Inn cabins.

For sheer seclusion, access, and cozy, comfortable accommodations, the cabins at the Trinity River Adventure Inn are certainly among the best. Steph's handiwork and painstaking care of the cabins is apparent, while I'm still savoring Heidi's crab dip on my taste buds weeks after the trip!" Michael Caranci/The Fly Shop Redding, CA
FFF Certified Master Instructor/www.theflyshopcom

2/16/2009: "Our stay at the Miner's Cabin has been everything we hoped for and more. Your hospitality--including the amazing crab dip--has been wonderful from start to finish. We can't wait to come back! Thank you for making this trip so special for us." Erik Villar/sous chef Calistoga Ranch, Calistoga, CA

2/16/2009: "[Loved] the beauty of the river and area, pampering and excellent meals and company. Hope to fish and hot tub next time!" Janet & Mike Navara/Cloverdale, CA

12/29/2009: "Just wanted to write and say thanks for a great weekend at your beautiful cabin [Alpen Glow]. We loved it and
will hopefully be coming back soon."
Yamini Bhatnagar/Union City, CA

12/12/2008: "Our annual December Steelhead trip was a huge success - complete with lodging and hot tubbing at Sow's Ear,
unbelievable gourmet meals and BIG angry fish. Steph and Heidi do it first-class all the way. We'll definitely be back!"
Shanan Rosenberg/Head Basketball Coach Foothill College (left)

12/11/2008: "We all (especially me) had a great time!!! We will be back."
Reeve Holstrom/Fresno, CA
(left, in the Jacuzzi tub in the master loft at Alpen Glow. We don't really know if there is water in the tub,
but after a cold day of fishing, there is nothing like hopping in this tub with water, or the hot tub over at our Bucktail location which looks out on the Trinity River.)

11/16/2008: Thank you so much for your wonderful hospitality during our stay at your Trinity River Adventure Inn!!! We had a very relaxing time while staying in your Miner's Cabin along the beautiful Trinity River. I felt pampered to say the least!

I am e-mailing pictures of our Steelhead caught on the Trinity River. We were so lucky as Jeff Parker, our guide, said it was a little too sunny and warm for the steelhead to really want to take a fly.
Our Best To You,
Bonnie and Allen Ehrke

Bonnie is shown on the left with her whopping 35" steelhead, which she caught November14th, with guide Jeff Parker. Jeff and his clients are catch-and-release only, so that big fish is back in the river and maybe a little bit cagier than before

10/2/2008: "Wow, wow, wow!" [Alpen Glow] was clean, beautiful, well equipped, and cozy. The grounds equaled the house and had the added attributes of tree swings, a nice lawn, and oh yeah, a stunning view and proximity to the river. I can't wait to come back with Terri." Scott Lewis/Larkspur, CA

9/16/2008: "Thank you again for a wonderful time. We can't stop talking about it."
Heidi Coppin (below with some of her many fish)/Chico, CA

8/22/2008: "You two were such terrific hosts--enjoyable and down to earth. [Alpen Glow] was lovely.
[The raft trip] was very enjoyable; loved the berries. Write that cookbook!"
Margaret Mew/Lafayette, CA

8/16/08: "Dear Heidi and Steph: Superb accommodations! Delicious food. This is heaven. Just to let you know we had a wonderful time with you and our stay at the Carriage House for our 25th Anniversary. You made us so comfortable, just like we were at home, but better. Even though there were fires in the area, it is still a gorgeous place. Steph, the raft ride was a blast; we had never been on a raft ride before. I couldn't have enjoyed my first ride better. Gary caught three trout, one a German brown; it was so pretty, with bright orange dots on its side. You suggested we go to a local restaurant La Grange which turn out to be very good. Not as good as your cooking though, Heidi. I still would like your recipe for that pork tenderloin; it was delicious. We could have sat and listened to all your adventures all night. Our dog Kacie misses Bisco and Scupper her two new friends. We give you a 6+++ star rating. We will drive 5 hours to stay with you again sometime; I do hope soon. Best be with you." Gary & Sandy Schupe/Manteca, CA

7/29/2008: "THANK YOU for a wonderful location for our family reunion [all of the Steel Bridge cabins].
My favorite part of the trip was the kayaking; thanks for making this possible. We'll sort through our pictures and send you some on the rope swing; it was the highlight of the location for the kids. I would definitely recommend this location to others; it was convenient, comfortable, well-equipped, and beautiful. THANKS AGAIN!" Gayle Kuokka/Palo Alto, CA

7/14/2008: "Accommodations: wonderful.
Peace & quiet: Excellent. We named the hummingbirds. The loud one is "Turbo" and the female is "Stealth." Oh, and "Chilli" and "Slug," our two morning slug visitors. Thanks again; we'll see you again for sure."
Kim & Jim Combes/Winnemucca, NV

7/8/2008: "Thank you for a wonderful 4th of July weekend! We loved the Miner's Cabin, delicious food, rafting adventure, parade in Weaverville and of course, the lovely company & conversation! I've been raving about you both and the Adventure Inn. We hope to see you again soon." Robyn & Liam Stannard/San Jose, CA

6/10/2008: "The Carriage House was very comfortable; authentic cabin feel. Very quiet, felt away from it all. [Meals were] excellent! Already making plans [to return]." Doris Burbank/Novato, CA

5/14/2008: "The Carriage House was more than we had hoped for; the river in the backyard is awesome. We haven't seen that many different types of birds all in one place in a while. I caught 5 trout at Stuarts Fork on Saturday in about 45 minutes; I released all of them.
We'll see you in June."
Greg Aarreberg/Pacifica, CA

3/6/2008: "Thank you very much for letting us stay at the cabin. I enjoyed staying here and hope to come back this summer." Owen Bankson (11)

"Thank you for everything." Madilyn Bankson (9) Owen & Maddy at right.

"Awesome! Loved it. We will be back!" Holly Bankson (not sure about Holly's age, but she is Owen and Maddy's mom and her husband Brian turned 40 while they were here)

12/9/2007: "See ya next year! Thanks for the great time. Excellent food!" Reeve Holstrom, Ryan, James, Mr. Nick, Joe, Mick

12/8/2007: "What a neat set up you have and a great place to R&R."
[This email is from one of 6 guys who were up here fishing this week. He and his partner had never fly-fished before and they did great, catching several fish each. They had to go back a day early, which explains the comments about the others.]

Steph and Heidi, Thoroughly enjoyed your hospitality, meals and especially the quick response to fixing the cold H20 problem [a water heater went out] and herding the skunk families [this is the country]. Adventures like that are what make the trip memorable, in a good way.

Just about now you're probably serving breakfast to our group, who undoubtedly slept in. Speaking of breakfast, please do send your [strata] recipe, chicken [and oven-roasted vegetables], etc. Truly, just fabulous meals!! Take care and again thanks for everything. Mick Canevari/Central Valley

11/30/2007: "Superlatives are necessary to describe all aspects of our visit."
We went with our daughter and avid fisherman-son-in-law and their 2 children, 3 years old and 7 mos. old and their Golden Retriever and we filled up Sow’s Ear quite handily. It was great to be able to spread out to accommodate toys, naps (children’s and adult’s!), etc.
It was nice having the kitchen to fix the baby’s bottle, etc., but it would be a very big mistake not to do the meal plan, as Heidi & Steph are phenomenal cooks, and I can guarantee you that when you meet them, you’re going to want to spend as much time with them as possible.
They are multi-talented, multi-faceted, energetic, delightful, genuine, warm, really fabulous people. Heidi & Steph & the food were the highlights for me, but there was so much more. We took a wonderful walk, went to the bridge Christmas lighting ceremony in the small, atmospheric town of Lewiston, and went kayaking with excellent instruction. I'm hooked.
And our son-in-law was able to do loads of fishing while we had fun with the children. The whole stay couldn’t have been more comfortable and fun. A return trip in the Spring is a MUST-I still want to go to wine tasting in the side car! I can hardly wait.
Gail High, Brockway, Lake Tahoe, CA

11/2/2007: "Thank you; it was a pleasure. Rhys and I caught another three fish on the way out of town Monday morning. We drove away with big grins in the rear view mirrors.
Also, I keep thinking back on our conversations as we got to know each other and your genuine spirit and kindness still lingers with me.
Thank you; it was a pleasure."

11/19/2007: "Caught my first steelhead and it was fantastic!" Frank Meraz, Sr./Fresno, CA
"Outstanding. Caught my 1st steelhead." Jason Guignard/Fresno, CA
"Please give us the same dates next year!" Jeremy Wright/Fresno/CA
"You are both great people. Stars at night, fire every afternoon [waiting for us]. Very peaceful. Definitely [coming] again."
Lee Wright/Fresno, CA

11/17/07: "What a great place to visit. Four days was a perfect getaway with the river in our backyard. Lucy, our chocolate lab, had the freedom to roam the river's edge & we all loved going fishing. It was a peaceful, cozy cabin and Heidi & Steph were the best of hosts. What a great place to visit. Thank you." Glorene Herseth/Dublin, CA

11/03/07: "Steph and Heidi know how to make you feel at home. Thank you so much for the wonderful weekend. We had a great weekend staying at the quaint cabin on the river. Waking up in the morning, migrating to the porch swing while eating breakfast, lounging on the hammocks until lunch, kayaking a peaceful stretch of the Trinity, eating dinner with new friends and so much more...

Steph and Heidi know how to make you feel at home and will go out of their way when you need anything extra. I recommend this B&B to any adventureist who may have kids or dogs." Tara Roddy (left)/Santa Cruz, CA

11/02/07: "Our host and hostess were about as hospitable as anyone could be who's not a member of the immediate family. I consider them members of an extended family now."
The meadow cabin was comfortable and very user friendly for pets. My son's chocolate lab enjoyed romping
on the expansive back lawn fronting the river.
Randy Skidmore, Napa, CA

10/11/2007: Great surroundings. Very peaceful. Absolutely wonderful food (I want the recipes)."
Accommodations were very comfortable. I loved the personalized attention [kayaking 10/9/07]. The friendliness is such a plus. It was great for my son, too. Loved the CDs you have to listen to. Would do this again as much as possible."
Karen Cruz/Monterey, CA

9/4/2007: "We had an excellent time."
"
I have been telling anyone that will listen today about how my little puppy went on a kayak! Amy and I just can't say enough complimentary things to you and Steph. It was a superb weekend and we feel so lucky to have stumbled onto your website. I am certain we will be back ; we have already started talking to friends about joining us for a trip in the spring."
Tate Birney/Sebastopol, CA

9/1/2007: "The kayaking was our unforgettable experience."
"
I would recommend it to anyone. Thank you for all your hospitality and especially your patience with Isabel. We absolutely had a blast and feel blessed to discover such a gem and good people.
Thanks for your incredible hospitality. We felt at home during our entire visit and that's saying a lot for my
introverted other half. Still riding on cloud nine,"
Amy Little/Sebastopol, CA"

8/31/2007: "The best B & B food we have ever had."
"The whole visit was great. An excellent locale @ a perfect spot on the river. [Having the river so close] to fish & play was great. Clearly a huge part of what made this excellent was Heidi and Steph and your love of the area.
[Food] was excellent. The variety was wonderful and yummy. The best B & B  food we have ever had!
Perfect locale with deck and lawn to river. The sidecar ride to wine tasting was an abslute hoot.
Really, everything was fabulous. Your flexibility about everything really helped to make it so relaxing.

You are absolutely the best. We don't think anyone will ever be able to top you guys!!!"
Mary, Brandon & Finnegan Huff/Bonnie Doon, CA

[Mary is fishing above and Brandon and Finnegan are at right. Finnegan is a wonderful, huge, golden retriever puppy who not only learned to kayak, but also went wine tasting with his parents, us and our dogs at Alpen Cellars north of Trinity Lake]

5/20/2007: "Thank you for one of the greatest weekends [we] have had in our many years together."
"We understand why you fell in love with the area and we can't wait to head back up to visit again, but next time we will bring friends and family."
Anne Shoemaker/Newman, CA

5/31/2007 Trip Report: Trinity River Adventure Inn

Here goes.....

So I'm searching online one day, looking for something for Allison (wifey) and I to do for the Memorial Day weekend. Finally I found the TRAI web site. As I started reading I thought, "Hey now this looks interesting.....Right on the river, good, good....fishing,excellent.....uh huh, hiking, I like that too.....and kayaking...perfect, ok keep going, lets see...aaah, cabin pictures, place looks cool soooo show me the money. Wait a minute, hello menu!
(that's King Henry and Princess Papuli, aka Andrew and Allison Harris, fishing on the right) MMMMM eggs, smoothies, YUM, thick sandwiches (me likes thick sandwiches).... Can you say, HEAVEN! Now what does it cost again, hum, not bad for two...... hey that's.......HONEY, COME SEE THIS!!!"

To make a long story short, she called, we got it and we arrived on Friday afternoon. the place is beautiful. Warm and sunny, the air smells piney and good. We introduced ourselves to Steph and Heidi.? Allison and I knew instantly we liked them.? Our little cabin , "The Sow's Ear" is immaculate and "Grandma Clear Lake Cute." I won't go into a blow by blow of our entire weekend, but there are some things you just need to know.

First, by the time dinner rolls around you feel like you are at your cousin's house (you know, the ones you really like)? Any nonsense you brought with you from the city has disappeared. It already feels like vacation. Also important, make Steph and Heidi hang out with you. They keep trying to "leave the guests alone." No way, both of them are really interesting with major life accomplishments and great stories.

Ok, the food was,"Off the Hook" (means great), everything times 100 of what's on the web site. Gotta say though, felt a little weird not being able to clear your own place. Very King Henryish (menu suggestion..turkey legs). Steph and Heidi worked their butts off to make sure we had an amazing experience. If you get the chance, go to the Trinity Alps Resort for dinner with them. Their friends Jim and Jeanie run it and are super nice and the place is "time warp awesome". I almost felt like "BABY" from Dirty Dancing (I'm kidding).

Fishing off their bank was great... Andy 2, Allison 0, ha, ha!!! One more tip, Go Kayaking (a must). We went to Lewiston Lake. It was breath-takingly beautiful! I can't emphasize that enough...Breath taking.

Just want to thank them again. They put a lot of energy into our stay and we really, really enjoyed it and so will you! Call before the word gets out.
Ciao."
King Henry and Princess Papuli aka Andrew and Allison Harris/Antioch, CA

6/2007: "I think Steph and Heidi are the best people on the planet to kayak a river with."
"Admiring a river from the shore and actually being part of the river in a kayak are very different experiences. Being on a river requires intimate knowledge of currents, eddies and kayak-balance, none of which I had. Having my first river kayak adventure be with them was both exciting and very relaxing. I did fall in, I did listen to what they told me to do if that happened, and I got back into the kayak with their assistance and continued on the adventure. I would do it again in a second with them as my guides. Happy Kayaking!"
Kirsten Carlson/Gig Harbor, WA

"Steph is an excellent instructor, explaining things clearly and concisely. I especially enjoyed learning [about ferry angles]. Thanks sooo much for the opportunity to hone old skills and to pick up some new ones." Judy Maben/Lewiston, CA

"Steph is such a patient teacher. I love your little boats and that they handle so well. Boating down the river with you both, and Bisco too, chatting, seeing the fish, looking at all the birds was so cool. What a beautiful trip and learning experience. I can't wait to do it again." Ginny Rice/Lewiston, CA
